Mölnlycke to advance wound care with new technology
We design and supply medical solutions to enhance performance at every point of care – from the operating room to the home. Now we are gearing up for a major shift to shape the next generation of wound care with new technology.
’It is all about wounds receiving optimal treatment, by making the right diagnoses and making the right decision about treatment at the right time. Everyone is talking about ’smart wound care products’, where digital solutions and sensors can become important components. We are convinced that this is part of the future of wound care,’ says Malin Andersson, Global Vice President for Wound Care R&D.
Wound Care is the largest of our four business areas, alongside Operating Room Solutions, Gloves and Antiseptics. We have a long and proud history in wound care. We first made history when Safetac® technology was developed in the early 1990s, a solution that means both less pain and reduced damage to the patient's skin during dressing changes. But now we're looking to create more of those firsts.

We are a global company with approximately 8,000 employees worldwide, a size that enables quick decisions and openness to test new solutions. This became clear during the first phase of the pandemic, where we were quick to adjust and find flexible solutions to support healthcare workers in a challenging situation, while finding novel ways to support our own staff.
Renewed focus on innovation
We believe that the wound care industry is now facing a shift in technology, where new inventions could mean digital diagnosis and real-time monitoring of wound healing. If such innovations are developed and refined, the healing time of a wound could be shortened even as the care for chronic and hard-to-heal wounds is optimised.
We have a need for a number of different skills in order to drive the shift in technology. There is an interest in working with engineers with experience in development of customer-focused healthcare products with knowledge in new materials, construction and industrial design; but also to connect with people from other industries with expertise in sensor technology, electronics and software, to name a few.
’It is about long-term investment in knowledge,’ Malin emphasises, and she believes being part of the Investor group helps a great deal – given that the group is known for their long-term perspective and solid trust in research and development.
‘We face an exciting journey. We want to make a difference in wound care and we are looking for new employees who want to be part of this and make our vision come true,’ she concludes.
